Beyond Books
Administrator: In April, 2008, I found a job that I feel was made for me. As the Executive Director of the Shepherd's Center of Topeka, I am able to put my marketing expertise to good use and with my background in education, develop and continue a tradition of providing classes and programs for adults 55 and older. To learn more about this wonderful ministry, visit www.shepherdscentertopeka.org.
Storyteller/Speaker: I enjoy giving programs to groups where I can meet and interact with people. As odd as it may seem to some, I am as comfortable speaking in a crowded auditorium as I am giving a program to a small group. I do not charge a fee, provided that I may display and sell books, and be reimbursed for my mileage if traveling further than 25 miles. Program Examples:
- Two Courageous Women - Mary Ann Bassett Sage and Mary Ann Dennitt Sage;
- Overview of Untold Secrets;
- Communication topics such as Relationships, Conflict, Self-Concept and Journal Writing.
Instructor: I can never get too far from teaching. I have offered classes through Washburn University and University of Kansas Division of Continuing Education. I have contracted to provide programs in-house for many organizations.
Past clients have included: City of Topeka; State of Kansas; Washburn University Division of Continuing Education; The Charles Curtis House Museum; Kansas Scenic Byways Program; Topeka Blood Bank; Sheltered Living; Kansas Bar Association, The Alzheimers Association & The Arthritis Foundation.
Children's Writer: Often around the holidays I am asked to read my storybooks for children's programs. Settings may include holiday parties, toy & book stores, libraries, churches, or tea parties. There is no charge provided I may have the storybooks for sale. Since I enjoy illustrating my storybooks, I take time to show pictures and visit with the children about images and the story theme.
